The 'Big Four' of thrash metal, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and the almighty Megadeth. The last time these four bands shared a stage was at Yankee Stadium back in 2011 and the gathering is considered to be one for the books. A lot of speculation as to when or if we'll see another show has come into play recently. However, Megadeth vocalist and guitarist, Dave Mustaine, has recently revealed in an interview with KAAOS TV out in Finland that he would be up to do another 'Big Four' show. Mustaine comments: Look, I’m open to playing; I don’t really care who I play with. We had fun. I think the fans had fun. It’s important that the fans do have a good time. I have nothing against it. There’s a lot of variables, though … You have all these different camps with the ‘Big Four.’ I think that it would be great to do it some more, but there’s also the beauty of it being something special and not doing it everywhere, because the people that did get to see it got to see something really fantastic. You know, if meteors came by every single night, after a while, it’d be, like, ‘Oh, there’s another meteor.’ There’s something special about it being very rare. So I would, but it also has to work out for everybody.” You can view the whole interview below which goes on to discuss Megadeth's plans for the new album, 20th anniversary tour for Youthanasia, and some wise words from Uncle Dave Mustaine.

It's gone from 98% to 100% in only a few weeks. Ladies and gentlemen the new Slipknot album is complete according to sources at The Pulse of Radio. The currently untitled album marks Slipknot's first studio album to not include late bassist Paul Gray and also the first album to not feature drummer Joey Jordison. (Yes, Joey was replaced and we will get to that.) Slipknot vocalist Corey Taylor recently spoke with HardDrive host Lou Brutus about recording the latest album without Gray and Jordison. It was interesting. We knew it was gonna be heavy. We knew it was gonna be one of those things where it's like, 'Okay, we're in uncharted territory right now, so what do we do?' You know. And Jim and Clown really stepped up, you know. They kind of started leading the charge and really getting stuff together. So by the time we really got into the studio, we had a really great template of music to check out. You've got the gorgeous melodies and the artistic direction of 'Vol. 3' and then you've got the absolute brutality of 'Iowa'. And I think people are gonna lose their minds when they hear it."
What a day for Nonpoint. In the past two weeks the band has gotten rid of guitarist Dave Lizzio (who has been with the band since 2011,) and also recorded a new single. Lizzio is stated as saying the following after departing Nonpoint: "I know that there has recently been a lot of speculation, question, worry, and concern regarding my current position with the band. And to clarify, once and for all — I am very, very heartbroken to acknowledge that I am no longer going to be the lead guitarist for this incredible band. Please understand that this decision was not an easy one for myself or anyone in the band to have to deal with, but it was determined to be necessary and I completely understand why it needed to happen. The details, as you can imagine, touched a variety of professional facets and I hope you all realize that these cannot all be 'public' details in many cases, and I sincerely wish that you all respect that. I am, and always will be, on good terms with my brothers in NONPOINT and I can only hope that this new album continues to propel them even further along their musical career, morseo than ever before. I am so proud of the work we all did on this new album and I can't wait to share it with all of you. I hope you continue to support them with the same tenacity and love you all gave me personally." The band has replaced Lizzio with B.C. Kochmit from the bands Eye Empire and Switched. Nonpoint continues to record their forthcoming album The Return, which is set for a September 29th through Razor & Tie Records here in the United States. The band's latest single "Breaking Skin," was released this week and gives us a little taste of what the new record is going to sound like you can check out the audio for that single below. What is the band Buckcherry known for? Good music mixed with a little good ol' profanity. Yet even with that profanity the band has managed to make it onto the radio airwaves with songs like "Crazy Bitch," and "Lit Up," a song completely about doing cocaine. Last year's album Confessions was a more laid back album (it might even be considered an album of self-realization reflecting on what the band has done in the past.) The band has recently decided that they are going to release a brand new EP entitled Fuck. The album is expected to be released on August 18th. Lead singer Josh Todd posted the following about the new album: This is a tribute to the word ‘fuck’... Over the years, we’ve been told so many times to get away from the honesty that makes this band special. It’s a part of who I am. It’s not about the profanity itself; it’s about using it cleverly.” It's been several year's since anyone's heard from Slipknot hitting the studio. The band recently released a teaser for the new album similar to those that were produced to promote their greatest hits album. The currently untitled album will be the bands first studio album since 2011's All Hope is Gone and has many of the fans riled up. Slipknot is offering a free digital copy of the brand new album alongside the tickets purchased to Knotfest out in San Bernardino, California. One question that plagues everyone is: "Who will replace Joey Jordison?" As of press time there really isn't much I can say about the issue. Anyways check out the two teasers for the new album below!
He's so bad... he needs detention. Scott Ian has announced a release date for his new autobiography titled I'm The Man: The Story of That Guy From Anthrax. It's set for an October 10th release and I can't wait. The book contains a foreword by fellow thrash metal guitarist Kirk Hammett (of Metallica.) I'm The Man details the life and times of guitarist Scott Ian. Stories about growing up as a nerdy kid in Queens, NY, stories about Anthrax, drama with Belladonna, autobiographical comic book inserts, and there are even some stories about the Big Four shows alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. Ian will be working with author Jon Weiderhorn who recently wrote Louder Than Life: The Definitive Oral History of Metal and is also a writer over at Revolver Magazine. The autobiography is going to be a great read and is highly anticipated alongside Randy Blythe's upcoming release. You can pre-order the book on Amazon for about $20 HERE. I am working with Jon Wiederhorn. But I am doing quite a bit of the actual writing. That's kind of one of the reasons why I haven't done one yet. For years I would get asked about doing a book but I couldn't commit because I couldn't say 'yes' and then take seven years to write it. But I know Jon so well and he's written things based on interviews that I've done with him — he's literally written things that are my voice. He could write in my written voice. So I just knew that it would work really well together with him and obviously that takes a lot of the load off of me. So we've kind of broken it up into who's gonna do what." Blues guitar legend Johnny Winter has passed away at the age of 70. One of the greatest blues guitarist's to grace the stage. He's produced several Grammy winning albums for Muddy Waters and was even nominated for a few with his own albums. In 1988 Winter was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and in 2006 he was ranked as number 63 on Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." May he rest in peace. Last March 311 released their eleventh studio album Stereolithic which debuted at number six on the Billboard charts. Since then the band has set out on a tour for the album and are even celebrating the twentieth anniversary of their sophomore album Grassroots. This Tuesday the band will be heading to Wallingford, CT marking their triumphant return to the Connecticut stomping grounds. 311 hasn't been to Connecticut since 2012's Unity Tour where they were alongside Slightly Stoopid in Hartford. That was actually the first show I ever photographed. We'll be coming up on the two-year anniversary of that show in about a month. Stereolithic was released on March 11th through 311 Records (the bands own independent label) and is a great release from the band. If you have yet to listen to the record I recommend that you listen to it when you get a chance. Songs like "Ebb and Flow," "Revalation of the Year," and "Sand Dollars," give the album an eccentric 311 "flow." The band is known for their hip-hop/reggae cross over and if you listen to the song "The Great Divide," you'll definitely feel a classic 311 vibe. 311 has a lot under their belt; 9 top-ten hits, numerous nights headlining shows and festivals, and they are even running their own cruise every summer. It's amazing to know that these five guys do so much to entertain the fans. The band will be hitting Connecticut THIS TUESDAY! You can check out their return to Connecticut over at The Dome in The Oakdale Theater. Tickets are on sale starting at 35 bucks and you can get those HERE. If you do decide to show up, please make sure you Come Original. |
