The day us metal heads all wait for... what bands are going to be playing this year's Mayhem Festival.
On the main stage: SLAYER, KING DIAMOND, HELLYEAH, and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. The Victory Records stage: WHITECHAPEL, THY ART IS MURDER, JUNGLE ROT, SISTER SIN, SWORN IN Also appearing: Shattered Sun, Feed Her to the Sharks, Code Orange, Kissing Candice This year in comparison to last year's seems to have a lot of variety shifts. Going from having Avenged Sevenfold headlining to having Slayer playing is a major difference. Two different bands that appeal to two different crowds, generations even. Then you've got King Diamond billed below Slayer, some will debate it and I'll leave that open to interpretation. Second stages this year seem to lack in comparison to last years as well. Body Count, Cannibal Corpse, and Suicide Silence were just three bands playing on the smaller stages. This year you have White Chapel, Thy Art Is Murder, and Jungle Rot. Great bands but smaller names in comparison. Regardless it's still going to be a great festival as it always is, full of experiences and fun times. July 19th the festival lands in Hartford, CT and July 25th they will be in Boston, Mass.Until then I leave you with George Fisher meme.

It seems as though Machine Head is forced to postpone their upcoming tour in an attempt to get their recent album, Bloodstone & Diamonds, out on time. The band's eight album is scheduled for a November 10th release via Nuclear Blast. The band has released a statement for the tour postponement: "It is with great disappointment that Machine Head must announce the postponement of our North American tour this fall. Our new album “Bloodstone & Diamonds” has taken longer to complete than expected and we had to make the difficult choice to either delay the album, let it go out as incomplete, or cancel the tour in order to properly finish and promote the album in the caliber it needs to be done. We decided postponing the tour was the best decision for the record. We feel this record is a milestone, we feel we have something truly special here, but getting there has been a challenge. Our vocalist / guitarist Robb Flynn just returned from a press tour where he was playing rough mixes and incomplete versions of songs for the press just to try and keep everything on time for our November release date. Refunds will be available for tickets at point of purchase. Look out for rescheduled American tour dates for the beginning of the year. All scheduled European tour dates will remain as scheduled. " The track listing for the upcoming album Bloodstone & Diamonds was also released. Track listing is as follows: MACHINE HEAD - BLOODSTONE & DIAMONDS 1. Now We Die 2. Killers & Kings 3. Ghosts Will Haunt My Bones 4. Night Of Long Knives 5. Sail Into The Black 6. Eyes Of The Dead 7. Beneath The Silt 8. In Comes The Flood 9. Damage Inside 10. Game Over 11. Imaginal Cells (Instrumental) 12. Take Me Through The Fire Check out the latest emerging super group. They're known as Devil's Highway. Comprised of Kyle Thomas (of EXHORDER, ALABAMA THUNDERPUSSY) on Vocals, Ralph Santolla (of OBITUARY, ICED EARTH, DEICIDE, DEATH) on Guitar Matt Brunson (of CROWBAR, KINGDOM OF SORROW) on Guitar Tony Laureano (of DIMMU BORGIR, 1349, NILE, ACHERON) on Drums and Steve DiGiorgio (of TESTAMENT, SADUS, ICED EARTH, DEATH) on Bass. The group seems to bring a ton of variety to the table and based on the teaser that they've released it seems as though it could come together nicely. Check out their first "unofficial" release entitled "Blighted Hous After going to Japan with Ralph, Tony and Steve [as the DEATH METAL ALLSTARS], we decided it was so much fun that we should make a real band." It looks as though Megadeth has been forced to cancel their next eight weeks of performances including their show on Motorhead's Motorboat cruise. The official statement from Megadeth is as follows: “Due to complications arising from a previous cervical spine surgery, and upon his doctor’s strict recommendations, Dave Mustaine has cancelled all performances for the next 8 weeks. With rest and treatment, he is expected to recover and resume performing soon. The band was looking forward to the concerts and cruise, and is disappointed that they will not be able to see their fans. Megadeth expects to return to the road and will see their fans soon!” In addition to Megadeth's cancellation the cruise-line has slapped together a super group of epic proportions simply dubbed "Metal Allegiance." Despite Dave Mustaine not being able to join the cruise bassist David Ellefson and guitarist Chris Broderick will be present. It's almost like Metal Masters. The jam session is currently jam packed with metal greats including:Philip H Anselmo (Down, ex-Pantera), Joey Belladonna (Anthrax), Chuck Billy (Testament), Chris Broderick (Megadeth), Jon Donais (Anthrax/Shadows Fall), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Mark Zavon (Kill Devil Hill), Frank Bello (Anthrax), Rex Brown (Kill Devil Hill, ex-Pantera), David Ellefson (Megadeth), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Mike Portnoy (The Winery Dogs, ex-Dream Theater)
Current Metallica guitarist and former member of Exodus, Kirk Hammett, lends his fingers to the thrash band for their latest single "Salt The Wound." Exodus is currently working on their tenth studio album BLOOD IN BLOOD OUT due out October 14th via Nuclear Blast. Singer Rob Dukes departed from the band back in June and since then has been replaced by Steve "Zetro" Souza. This album marks the first album the band is putting out with vocalist Steve Souza since 2004's Tempo of the Damned. Well... the following statement shown in the picture is a direct quote from Chimaira vocalist and founder Mark Hunter. The band has called it quits after SIXTEEN years and SEVEN studio albums. The band tore my face off when I saw them open for UNEARTH at the Webster Theater in 2010 (I believe.) Best of luck to all the members and to Mark Hunter especially for keeping Chimaira alive for all those years. Atreyu is a legendary band when it comes to metalcore. Many list them as an inspiration and some list them as one of the first bands they heard. In recent years Atreyu had went on a hiatus that lasted nearly three years. Well some big news for Atreyu fans: Atreyu is back and is giving you what deserve. The new single is called "So Others May Live" and was well anticipated from their diehard fans. You can check out the single below which is also available for a FREE DOWNLOAD courtesy of Atreyu themselves. 'So Others May Live’ is inspired by one of my best friends, who is ex-military. The things our troops go through to protect us are pretty unreal. Their treatment after leaves a lot to be desired, as well. The song honors them and condemns our government’s constant deployment of these brave souls. The people who fight and die for us often come from a certain socio-economic background – the working class. The people making these decisions to send our nation’s children to war come from positions of privilege and wealth; their kids aren’t the ones getting deployed and they aren’t risking their lives every day at work. Yet they order the working class to go ‘keep us safe’ at the drop of a hat, it feels like. It’s bullshit. It’s the politicians and the rich of this country waging war to keep the majority pre-occupied, so they can make money and advance their bullshit political agendas. The expense is ‘expendable’ working class/poor Americans’ lives, never the rich." Two new singles later Slipknot finally announces the new album in detail. The fifth album from the Iowa rockers is the first without bassist Paul Gray and drummer Joey Jordison. The album is titled .5: The Gray Chapter as an homage to the late bassist and is expected to be released October 21st. It's hard to think that it has been six years since the world first heard tunes like "Snuff," "Psychosocial," "Dead Memories," and "Sulfur." Back in 2008, I was a young boy who had still not seen Slipknot and I guess I waited too long. I eventually caught them on their second time headlining Mayhem Festival in 2012 without Paul Gray. The track listing for the album can be found below as well as the first two singles on the album. Slipknot will be on tour this winter with Korn and King 810.
Recently formed supergroup Killer Be Killed has released a music video for their latest single "Snakes of Jehovah." The supergroup is comprised of Max Cavalera of Soulfly, Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan, , Dave Elitch from of The Mars Volta and Troy Sanders of Mastodon. The band released their first album in 2013 and we hope to see more from them. |
