Oh what a long strange trip it's been for ol' Bobby Weir. The Grateful Dead guitarist recently has run into a little inconvenience causing him to cancel all upcoming dates with his Bob Weir and Ratdog. Rumors have speculated that even Further's LOCKN' Festival performance will lack the attendance of Weir. It's sad to see some one like Bobby get forced to cancel his tour dates and upset all the young dead heads. I was really looking forward to seeing the band play over at this year's Peach Festival in Pennsylvania. No official reasons have been accredited following Weir's immediate cancellations but an official statement was made on Bob Weir's Facebook page. The statement is as follows: Circumstances have necessitated that all scheduled tour dates for Bob Weir & RatDog are being cancelled. This applies to all dates on the summer tour starting on Thursday, August 14 in Boston through September 14 in Nashville and also includes the Jamaica event in January of 2015. Full and complete refunds are available at place of purchase. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience." We wish Bob Weir the best of luck while he takes his "short break" and hope that when he returns he will be back to 100% and can still jam like he used to.

What comes to mind when you think about Pink Floyd? The Wall? Dark Side of the Moon? New album? Well listen to this news. Recently the wife of Pink Floyd guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour leaked some new information online. In a recent tweet Polly Samson [Gilmour's wife] said "Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called "The Endless River". Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright's swansong and very beautiful." This will be the first studio album from Pink Floyd since 1994's The Division Bell which is a twenty year gap. The rumor has become confirmed by other members of the band including Gilmour himself. So far there is no confirmation of Roger Water's involvement in the album since he is currently focused on releasing a solo album. Gilmour is also planning to release a solo album his first since 2006. Check out the latest release from Karl Denson's Tiny Universe. This is the video for the song "My Baby," off of their recent album My Ammo. It features Nicki Bluhm delivering some kick ass vocals and is definitely a song you should add to your summer playlist. Karl Denson talks about the song: "My Baby’ was the first song I ever wrote on guitar. I envisioned it as a vintage rock duet number, so we brought in the amazing Nicki Bluhm to sing with me and the song became what it is today. For the video, we found a great old barroom in northern California and filmed the live shots there. It captures the energy of the song just right.” Don't forget you can catch Karl Denson's Tiny Universe playing Saturday night (Sunday morning) at this year's Gathering Of The Vibes in Bridgeport, Connecticut alongside other bands such as Umphrey's McGee, Widespread Panic, and The Disco Biscuits featuring Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann from the Grateful Dead. Eric Clapton, or as some refer to him as "Slow Hand," recently talked to Uncut Magazine. Clapton discusses how he is planning to retire touring on the road for a while. He was also asked about a Cream reunion. Check out the video for Eric Clapton & Friends' "Call Me The Breeze," which will be featured on the upcoming album The Breeze An Appreciation of JJ Cale. What Eric Clapton had to say about the road:
In a previous interview with Rolling Stone Magazine the guitarist stated that he planned to quit touring around the ripe old age of 70. Seeing how his 70th birthday is rapidly approaching it seems as though his statement can be seen as true.
Clapton was also asked about a CREAM reunion where he replied by saying he hadn't talked to band mates Jack Bruce or Ginger Baker since their American affair. Clapton went on to say "At this time in my life, I don’t want blood on my hands! I don’t want to be part of some kind of tragic confrontation" meaning if they don't want to talk to him then he won't force them to talk to him and get on wrong terms. Hoping for the best. Eric Clapton does have an album coming out July 29th called The Breeze An Appreciation of JJ Cale which is a tribute to singer/song writer JJ Cale who passed away due to heart failure last year on July 26th. The album is set to feature performances by Derek Trucks, John Mayer, Tom Petty, Willie Nelson and more. Bob Weir's talk show returns right now. It's been a long time since I've caught a Weir Here. You can catch the stream from TRI studios right here. This fathers day episode features Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real jamming out with Bob Weir and Ratdog. It's essentially a practice jam session for an upcoming show. The live stream started at 5 PM Pacific time and will re-air at 7 PM Pacific time. Come join the fun! '555' is known as the neighbor of the beast. But this new single from Phish will tell you otherwise. The song is going to be released on the upcoming album "Fuego" which is leaning toward a June 24th release. '555' has a very funky vibe to it and knowing what Phish can do they can stretch it out from 5:35 to 15:45 with just the pluck of a string. This is not the first song the band has shown from the new album, other songs include 'Waiting All Night,' and 'The Line.' Check out the single below. Can't afford a ticket to the Tennessee festival this year? Well with some nice speakers and a good wi-fi reception you can almost enjoy it to full capacity. The festival will be streaming on both Xbox and the festival's website. Among the line-up are: Pusha-T, Cage The Elephant, Vampire Weekend, Tedeschi Trucks, Cake, Jack White, Lionel Richie, and Elton John. What I am really looking forward to is the "Super Jam" on Saturday night lead by Derek Trucks. Who knows who will show up. You can see the streaming schedule HERE. Late night jam band moe. released an album back on May 27th called "No Guts No Glory" the very busy band just released the music video for the song "Blond Hair and Blue Eyes. The band has been booked for numerous upcoming festivals including Connecticut's Gathering Of The Vibes. Check out the video for "Blond Hair Blue Eyes" below. The thing I love about Gov't Mule is not their original songs but their takes on the classics; otherwise known as "the covers." Mule's set at Mountain Jam this year was full of guests and covers which made it extremely enjoyable. Jackie Greene came by to play a "Sugaree" jam as well as a cover of The Black Crowes' "Sometimes Salvation." Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks also made an appearance to help play Chaka Khan's "Tell Me Something Good." Gov't Mule played two jam packed sets, covers and originals. The encore though, was strictly covers from The Doors. Haynes, or as Weir referred to him as "Uncle Warren", came back out to play "People Are Strange", "Five To One", and "Break On Through." The covers weren't bad... nor were they good either. They're the product of a tired Warren Haynes and Gov't Mule meaning that they could have been better had they been played at any other time during the set. It was weird though, because it was like Morrison was there. In spirit. Haynes did deliver last night and that's all that mattered, to keep the fans happy and to keep the festival jumping. Among the songs played were: "World Boss", "St. Stephen", "Breakdown", "Stratus", "Creep", and "Broke Down on the Brazos." My high school math teacher once told me that Derek Trucks is the best modern day jam guitarist. He went on to tell me that Tedeschi Trucks is one of the best bands out there to date. How can I say no to that? Agreed Derek Trucks does have years of experience playing guitar be it with his band (The Derek Trucks Band) or with The Allman Brothers Band. Hands down, Trucks will always be able to wail on the guitar... if you think he's going slow just wait til he pops that slide on because you're in for a treat! Tedeschi Trucks assisted in the closing of day three of Mountain Jam 10 and stretched out their seven song set list. Tedeschi was vocally on point throughout the set and needless to say Trucks was on point guitar wise. The band kicked off with "Get What You Deserve" and played other favorites such as "The Storm" and "Keep On Growin'." Despite ending their set this would not be the last we saw of Tedeschi and Trucks as they would later be brought out to the stage to jam a cover of Chaka Kahn's "Tell Me Something Good." |
