What better to accompany a band of musicians that wears masks than a band that looks like they've come straight out of Final Fantasy. Thira is all set to support Mushroomhead on their upcoming tour. The industrial groove metal band has recently toured alongside the late Wayne Static, Powerman 5000, and OTEP. Thira THRIVES to let all their listeners know what TRUE industrial groove metal sounds like: creating something that makes you hungry, that sounds heavy, and is determined to make you move. Thira is incredibly excited to be a part of this amazing tour. It's an honor to share the stage with these great bands, especially Mushroomhead - a long time inspiration and influence!"

It's that time of the year where society judges what music was the "highlight" of the year. Usually the winners are the pop icons that people adore so much. But I've always been interested in one category: ROCK. It upsets me that a majority of the time they don't even air these categories. Without further ado I present to you the 2014 Nominees for the Rock genre. BEST ROCK PERFORMANCE: "Gimme Something Good" -Ryan Adams Label: Blue Note Records "Do I Wanna Know?" - Arctic Monkeys Track from: AM Label: Domino Recording Co. "Blue Moon" - Beck Label: Capitol Records "Fever" - The Black Keys Track from: Turn Blue Label: Nonesuch "Lazaretto" - Jack White Track from: Lazaretto Label: Third Man Records/Columbia Records I'm pulling for either Beck or Jack White to win this category. Lazaretto is one of my favorite rock releases from this year however the Grammy might go to The Black Keys since they have the most radio play. BEST METAL PERFORMANCE: "Neon Knights" - Anthrax Track from: Ronnie James Dio - This Is Your Life Label: Rhino "High Road" - Mastodon Track from: Once More 'Round The Sun Label: Reprise "Heartbreaker" - Motörhead Track from: Aftershock Label: Udr "The Negative One" - Slipknot Label: Roadrunner Records "The Last In Line" - Tenacious D Track from: Ronnie James Dio - This Is Your Life Label: Rhino Earlier this year we were presented with an all-star tribute album for the late legend Ronnie James Dio entitled: Ronnie James Dio - This Is Your Life. Two of the best metal performances come from that album making Dio's legacy live on regardless of whether he's alive or in the afterlife. I would like to see Anthrax or Tenacious D claim the grammy in honor of RJD but Slipknot is also in the standing for winning this with "The Negative One," since it was one of Slipknot's first singles since "Dead Memories," "Psychosocial," and "Snuff," off of 2008's All Hope Is Gone. Not only has the band been absent in the studio since then but I would assume a Grammy for this single would be a great way to pay tribute to the late Slipknot bassist Paul Gray. BEST ROCK SONG: "Ain't It Fun" - Hayley Williams & Taylor York from: Paramore Label: Fueled By Ramen; "Blue Moon" - Beck Hansen (Beck) Label: Capitol Records; "Fever" - D. Auerbach, B. Burton & P. Carney, songwriters (The Black Keys) Label: Nonesuch Records; "Gimme Something Good" Ryan Adams, songwriter (Ryan Adams) Label: Blue Note Records; "Lazaretto" - Jack White III, songwriter (Jack White) Label: Third Man Records/Columbia Records; Essentially the same exact nominees for best rock performance but with Paramore. Still pulling for Beck and Jack White. BEST ROCK ALBUM: Ryan Adams - Ryan Adams Label: Blue Note Records Morning Phase - Beck Label: Capitol Records Turn Blue - The Black Keys Label: Nonesuch Hypnotic Eye - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Label: Reprise Songs Of Innocence - U2 Label: Interscope Well this is essentially the whole kit and caboodle. You've got a U2 album that was given away for free, a Tom Petty album their first in four years, a powerful album from alternative legends The Black Keys, an abstract album by Beck, and a self-titled album by Ryan Adams. Throw a dart and hit something. Prepare to have your heart warmed. Kerry King known mainly for trading solo's alongside Gary Holt in thrash metal band Slayer, made a recent discovery after dining at a restaurant in Indianapolis. King finished dining and came across a homeless man offering a kitten for sale just to make a quick buck. According to manager Heidi Robinson-Fitzgerald "Assistant tour manager Jess Cortese saw a man on the street, who offered up the little kitten for a dollar. The kitten was freezing so Jess took it. She slept on the bus and went to the venue with her today, hanging out." The kitten was given to local resident Penny Hamilton Riley who named the kitten "Gypsy." |
